In plain words
Google jail
It’s what agents call a profile that’s suspended, rejected or stuck in verification.
A suspended profile is hidden from the public, and its owners and managers can’t act on it.
Why it matters for an agent
Your Google Business Profile is the free business listing Google shows on Maps and beside search results. While it’s suspended, Google hides it, so for searches like “realtor near me” you’re missing from the map and the three agents under it, the map pack.
You also only get one shot at the appeal. Google says an appeal can only be submitted once, and a further review comes only after a reinstatement request is denied, so most of the work is fixing the cause and gathering proof before you submit.
Step by step
A profile suspension hides one profile, while an account restriction suspends every profile you manage and stops you from creating or claiming others. The appeals tool shows the status as eligible for appeal, can’t be appealed, submitted, approved or not approved.
Where to click
Appeals tool › Your profile › Status
What good looks like
You know which it is, and the status reads eligible for appeal.
Time
5 minutes
Google may suspend profiles that break its guidelines, and for agents the usual causes are the same handful. The name carries extra words such as a city or a tagline. The address is a P.O. box, a virtual office or a co-working desk without signage and staff. A home address is on show when a service-area business should hide it. There’s more than one profile, when Google allows one per business and none per specialty. Or the phone isn’t under your direct control.
Google names real estate agents as individual practitioners who can have a profile, and says sales associates and lead generation agents for corporations can’t.
What good looks like
One sentence that names the cause, ready for the appeal.
Time
30 minutes
Correct the name on your website and business cards, the phone number and the office details, so the real world matches the profile you want restored. If the profile itself is wrong, note the corrected details for the appeal.
What good looks like
Your website, cards and office signage show the same name and address.
Time
30 minutes
Google asks for documents such as a business registration, a business license, tax certificates or a utility bill for electricity, phone, water or internet, and the business name and address on each one should match the profile.
What good looks like
Two or three documents, each in the exact name and address on the profile.
Time
Up to a day
In the appeals tool, confirm your account, select the profile and the decision you’re appealing, add your explanation and documents, then confirm you’re ready and submit.
Where to click
Appeals tool › Profile › Decision › Submit appeal
What good looks like
Status reads submitted, and your explanation names the cause and the fix.
Time
15 minutes
Google’s help page doesn’t give a timeframe, and the decision arrives by email. Don’t create a new profile for the same business in the meantime. If the appeal is approved, make any further edits slowly, and if it isn’t, Google says a further review is possible.
What good looks like
One profile, one appeal, and an email from Google.
Time
Days to weeks
Tip: Not every warning is a suspension. Google says a request to verify again usually follows recent changes to business details, and that calls for the verification steps, not an appeal.

Client result
Suzanne Carney, a Realtor in Los Angeles, came to Ashford with a profile in what agents call Google jail. We got her verified first, then built the profile properly with categories and service areas and made her details match everywhere Google looks.

Common mistakes
01
Opening a new profile
Google says not to create a new profile for the same business, and doing it turns one problem into two.
02
Appealing before fixing
You can only submit the appeal once, so fix the cause first.
03
Documents in another name
A utility bill in your brokerage’s name doesn’t prove a profile in yours.
04
Mistaking re-verification for a suspension
A request to verify again usually follows recent edits, so verify instead of appealing.
05
Editing everything after reinstatement
Change the name, address or category slowly, one at a time.

Questions agents ask
How long does a Google Business Profile appeal take?
Google’s help page doesn’t give a timeframe. The decision comes by email, and you can check the status in the appeals tool in the meantime.
Can I appeal more than once?
Google says an appeal can only be submitted once. If the reinstatement request is denied, a further review is possible.
Why was I suspended without a reason?
The notice points to Google’s guidelines, so check your name, address, phone, number of profiles and your role against them. One of those is usually the cause.
Can I make a new profile while I wait?
No. Google says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business.
